Life is a Battlefield
I have vivid memories of me and my high school friends heading to Palm Springs with not a care in the world except, praying our hairspray could withstand the days activities. We drove with the windows rolled down, singing at the top of our lungs the entire way. We perfected our harmonies singing "Love Is A Battlefield" by Pat Benatar. With all the passion our teenage hearts could express, we sang that song like we meant business. We were young... heartache to heartache ... we were totally clueless, like totally.
Every time I hear that song, I am thrown back into that car heading to Palm Springs. I'm also punched with the reality that life is a battlefield and when I'm not prepared, things get ugly fast.
How do we get ready for the challenges we face everyday?
Awareness Of The Real Battle
It's so important to understand that there is a battle going on around us that we cannot see. There is an enemy that hits below the belt constantly, he does not play fair. One of the biggest weapons we have is to be so familiar with the movements and sounds of God that we know without a doubt where the enemy is advancing. We need to be studying God's playbook because the enemy is certainly studying us!
Seek The Right Truth
We need to pursue an understanding of God's truth. When we seek to know the Creator of the World, we lay the foundation for our confidence and strength. God's truth is a guide (Psalm 43:3). God's truth brings discernment (1 John4:6). God's truth is freedom (John 8:32). God's truth brings light into the darkness (John 3:21). Ladies & Gentlemen, this world provides all kinds of false truth so, let's be diligent to seek God's truth.
Enter The War Room
A few years ago, I went to the movie theater with some friends to see the movie "War Room" and it revealed to me something I have never forgotten... the immeasurable power of prayer. That sacred space for us to discuss the battle plan. It is where we get to stomp our feet in protest, bare our heart and expose our weaknesses before a safe and loving King. Our personal war room is a necessity for everyday living. Talking to God will give us the ability to stand with boldness against the enemy.
Being aware of the battles, seeking God's truth and talking to Him regularly are all steps we can take to prepare ourselves when life gets hard. The enemy comes at us with envy, greed, selfishness, insecurity, doubt, shame, fear, discouragement, anxiety, disappointment and the list goes on.
I want to encourage us all to sit quietly before the Lord today and ask him to reveal your weaknesses. Believe me, I know how hard that will be for most of us to endure. What I can tell you with confidence and certainty is that on the other side of your weakness is a strength that will protect you in your darkest moments.
