I came across this prayer meditation by Richard Rohr and wanted to share it with you. Repeating these eight words in prayer have been a huge comfort to me recently.
Be Still And Know That I Am God
It's a very mindful practice of prayer that has allowed me to reset and connect with my King during times of anxiety, anger and fear. If you struggle with any of those things like I do, practicing this simple prayer meditation may help bring your heart and mind back into focus on God. It has sure been a great tool for me.
Begin by closing your eyes and quieting your body for a few deep breaths. Feel free to turn on some instrumental worship music or white noise if your surroundings allow.
Pray these words, "Be still and know that I am God."
Take two deep breaths. Clear your mind.
Pray these words, "Be still and know that I am."
Inhale the promises of God and exhale the untruths floating around in your mind.
Pray these words, "Be still and know."
Keep breathing, rest in the moment for two more deep breaths.
Pray these words, "Be still."
Feel yourself releasing it all into God's capable and loving care, breathe.
Repeat as many times as you need to be still in God's presence. When finished, close with, "Amen".
Bonus! This is very easy to memorize so, not only are you being intentional with your prayer, you are memorizing God's Word. Take this mindful prayer practice on the road with you, to your office or hide in the bathroom (for those of you with young ones).
